According to Dongfang daily news, the Li Xiaoyan, is the first commanding officer of Varyag. The newspaper also said the ship is unlikely to make its maiden sea trial on Aug. 1.
Li was a member of the first and only batch of pilots sent for warship captain training in 1987.
