Volvo Aero’s bid to give its RM12 turbofan extra thrust is seen as a move to increase the chances of the Gripen NG in Brazil.
The Saab fighter was criticized for using too many American parts, by switching from the GE F414 to an improved RM12 could reduce that reliance.
Volvo Aero said it could increase thrust in the RM12 by 2-15 percent by using a new or modified fan combined with a new turbine.
