India’s first indigenous Radar Imaging Satellite (RISAT-1) was launched into orbit on board a Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle on Thursday.

While the satellite will be used for agriculture and disaster management, officials admit the satellite gives the military an ability to carry out reconnaissance activities.
