Speaking at a ceremony to celebrate the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy’s 64th founding anniversary in Beijing, Rear Adm. Song Xue, deputy chief of staff, told foreign military attaches that China’s next aircraft carrier will be larger than Liaoning.
Song also refuted reports that the new aircraft carrier is being built in Shanghai.
He added that Liaoning comes under direct command of the Navy’s headquarters and is not deployed to any of the three fleets.
