Hammond cannot confirm Britain will buy 138 F-35s

Speaking to Sky News, British Defense Secretary Philip Hammond would not commit on the final number of F-35s the country will buy.

While the first 48 F-35s destined for the Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carriers are confirmed, the other 90 planes that were proposed earlier are not.

The final number will depend on the mix between manned fighter jets and unmanned aircraft. Hammond says one camp prefers an 80:20 split of manned to unmanned aircraft in future, the other camp is suggesting the exact opposite.
