U.S. Naval Research Laboratory’s hydrogen-powered UAV airborne for 48 hours

U.S. Naval Research Laboratory’s Ion Tiger UAV broke its previous flight record by staying airborne for 48 hours and 1 minute on Apr. 16-18. The previous record was 26 hours and 2 minutes set in 2009.

Researchers have switched the fuel from compressed to liquid hydrogen. The liquid is three times denser, allowing more fuel to be carried.
