Defense Meteorological Satellite going into space after 15 years wait

A U.S. Air Force Defense Meteorological Satellite will finally launched into space on Apr. 3 after being completed in 1998.

Flight 19 was kept in storage for 10 years as previous satellites of the same class ended up exceeding their design lives in orbit.

It was brought out of storage in 2008 and underwent two lifetime extension efforts to boost its expectancy once it reaches the earth’s orbit.
