Two crew members on board a U.S. Navy MH-60S on USS William P. Lawrence were killed when their helicopter was swept overboard by waves last September in the Red Sea. The investigation board blamed the commanding officer of the warship for the accident.
The aircraft had landed and was chained and choked on the flight deck, however the rotors were still turning when it was washed overboard by a “wall of water.”
Adm. Harry Harris, the head of the Pacific Fleet, agreed with Naval Air Force Pacific that the CO of the ship should not have ordered high speed while turning into rough waters.
