During a Senate hearing on Jun. 2, Australia’s defense chiefs confirmed that Prime Minister Tony Abbott had asked them to look into fielding the F-35B on Australia’s two LHDs.
Senators were told the task won’t be easy as the ships have not been built with fixed-wing aircraft in mind and major modifications are needed.
