The RoCAF has determined that the Alenia Aermacchi M-346 is the best solution to replaced its aging AT-3 jet trainer.
Taiwan’s AT-3 is expected to reached the end of its lifespan in 2016 and there is an urgent need to find a replacement.
As the deadline approaches, the air force may choose to use the IDF as an advanced trainer while a new trainer is being procured.
