China clarified that two PLAAF test pilots that died did not lost their lives whilst testing the J-15.
In the original Chinese text, it clearly states the two were killed in the course of duty. The next sentence praised the test unit for its achievements in testing the J-15.
The misinterpretation may have arise from the English version of the Xinhua report dated Aug. 27 which said: “The order spoke highly of the squadron in the exploration and development of the J-15 fighter jet. Two test pilots of the squadron sacrificed their lives during the tests.”
