U.S. rejects Chinese demand to stop military flights off Hainan island

The Pentagon said that during closed-door discussions with China, Beijing had requested that the U.S. stop surveillance flights off the coast of Hainan island. The proposal was rejected by U.S.

Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Pool, a Pentagon spokesman told Reuters, that the U.S. “have consistently opposed any Chinese proposals that would limit U.S. operations in the air or sea beyond the territorial limits of coastal states, place U.S. alliances at risk (or) constrain activities with U.S. allies or partners.”
