Spanish newspaper El Pais reported last week that the Pentagon is seeking permission from Spain to station up to 3,000 Marines at Moron air base.
The base is currently home to a quick reaction force of around 500 Marines. The Pentagon hopes to increase the number to 850 Marines and surge up to 3,000 troops in the event of a crisis.
