Japan’s military detachment in Djibouti to get more assignments

Tokyo has come up with a new plan to expand the scope of the mission in Djibouti. Currently, the troops there are tasked with securing the sea lanes in the Gulf of Aden.

Under the new plan, light armored vehicles deployed at the base would be utilized for rescuing Japanese citizens by land routes.

The parking aprons will be expanded to accommodate more aircraft in event of an evacuation of Japanese nationals in the Middle East.
