Denmark is upset after the Russian ambassador to Denmark, Mikhail Vanin, threatened to target Royal Danish Navy warships with nuclear missiles if Denmark joins the NATO missile defense shield.

“I don’t think the Danes fully understand the consequences of what will happen if Denmark joins the American-controlled missile defence. If it happens, Danish war ships will become targets for Russian atomic missiles,” Vanin wrote in an opinion piece published by Jyllands-Posten.
Back in August, Denmark announced its intention to assign one of its air defense frigates to the missile defense shield program.

Future targeting is not current threatening.
