Northrop Grumman proposing to build a flying wing to explore Venus

Northrop Grumman will enter a flying wing concept for the upcoming NASA New Frontiers competition.

The Venus Atmospheric Maneuverable Platform (VAMP) will inflate and keep itself airborne for years in the thick atmosphere of Venus.

The concept is not new as Northrop had done some research into inflatable wings for DARPA’s Rapid Eye concept in the last decade.
