A military payload launched by Soyuz rocket may have failed to deploy

Russia attempted to launch two military satellites into orbit on Dec. 5 from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in northern Russia. One of the payloads onboard the Soyuz 2-1v rocket seems to have failed to deploy from the upper stage.

One of the payload is the Kanopus ST Earth observing satellite, designed to help track enemy submarines, and the other is KYuA 1, a passive secondary spacecraft acting as a target to help calibrate defense radar systems.

The incident was first reported by Russian media but which satellite that was affected was not revealed by the press.
