The U.S. Navy has awarded Boeing an engineering contract to convert the Super Hornet into a configuration specific to the Blue Angels role.

Most likely, the F/A-18E/Fs will have their guns and missiles launchers removed and a smoke generator added to the airframe.
Of note, the Blue Angels will celebrate their 70th anniversary in 2016.
