MiG killer and 1st commanding officer of TOPGUN has passed away

The first commanding officer of United States Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN), retired Capt. Ronald E. “Mugs” McKeown, has passed away on Nov. 21. He was 76.

Before taking command of TOPGUN, McKeown participated in the air war over Vietnam and during a lengthy dogfight with six North Vietnamese MiGs, McKeown shot down two enemy fighters.
