The Chinese government has published photos of two commercial airliners that flew to Fiery Cross Reef on Jan. 6.
According to Xinhua News, the two airliners were leased by the Chinese government and they both took off from Haikou Meilan International Airport and the trip took two hours.
The first aircraft landed at 10:21 followed by the second jet at 10:46. The China Southern Airlines Airbus A319 (B-6203) and Hainan Airlines Boeing 737 (B-5620) later returned to Meilan airport in the afternoon.
Data from FlightRadar24 suggests the A319 was the first to touch down on the artificial island.
