Cologne-based newspaper “Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger” reported on Jan. 12 that the German government is buying the Heron TP unmanned aerial vehicle.

Since 2010, IAI had been leasing three airframes to the Luftwaffe in a joint partnership with Rheinmetall. The contract expired last year and Airbus had teamed with IAI to offer a new lease to the Bundeswehr or for Germany to buy over the UAVs.
