The last pair of U.S. Navy S-3 Vikings took to the air for the final Navy flight at Naval Base Ventura County, Point Mugu, California, on Jan. 11.
VX-30 was operating the last three S-3Bs when the type was retired from front-line service in 2009. Their duty was to monitor the vast Point Mugu Sea Range.
At least one of the Vikings that launched from Point Mugu that day will continue flying with NASA.
