Pratt & Whitney given new F135 contracts

The Pentagon has given Pratt & Whitney two contracts to build 167 F135 engines to power the F-35. The ninth batch will produce 66 engines while the last contract is for 101 power plants.

The value of both contracts will only be known later this month after details have been finalized. An anonymous source told Reuters the deal is worth $3 billion to the company.

A joint statement by the company and the Joint Program Office says the price for engines have been lowered.
