The U.S. Air Force deployed eight F-22 stealth fighters to Yokota Air Base, Japan on Jan. 20. U.S. officials said the deployment is routine although the arrival comes in the wake of North Korea’s fourth nuclear test.
Stars and Stripes added that the jets from the 525th Fighter Squadron will be joined by F-16s from 18th Aggressor Squadron later.
Col. Kenneth Hoffman, U.S. Forces Japan spokesman, said “Yokota Air Base is receiving a temporary influx of 26 U.S. fighter aircraft, F-22s and F-16s.”
The F-22s will remain at Yokota until Jan. 22.
