China’s foreign minster defended the deployment of HQ-9 on Woody Island

China’s foreign minster Wang Yi has defended his country’s decision to deploy its HQ-9 air defense system on Woody Island in the South China Sea.

Wang said the move is consistent with China’s right to self-preservation and self-protection under international law.

Commercial satellite imagery has shown a set of radar and missile launchers in the Paracel archipelago on Feb. 14.
