USS Chosin joins phased modernization program for guided missile cruisers

USS Chosin will depart for San Diego today and the cruiser will remain docked until 2021 as part of the U.S. Navy’s phased modernization program for guided missile cruisers.

The sailing branch had determined that this is the best way forward for its guided missile cruiser fleet so that the platform can remain in service until 2040.

USS Vicksburg will join the program later this year. So far, the service had laid up USS Cowpens and Gettysburg since last year.
