Controversial plan by SLAF to buy 2 ex-RAF C-130Ks

The Sunday Leader has done it again. This time the Sri Lankan newspaper has pointed out a controversial plan by the Sri Lankan Air Force to buy two former Royal Air Force C-130Ks from Marshall Aerospace.

The proposal from Marshall Aerospace was to buy the two planes at $17.5 million each. The British company will overhaul and instead modern avionics on the cargo planes before delivery to SLAF.

However, the planes were originally sold to Marshall Aerospace as scrap metal at $2.5 million each. An expert from the SLAF pointed out that even if the service was to buy the plane at its original condition, refurbishing the aircraft back to flying status would cost only an extra $6 to 7 million each.
