Israeli Air Force chief, Brig. Gen. Tal Kelman, says his service needs 75 Lockheed Martin F-35s. So far, Israel has committed to 33 F-35A jets and Minister of Defense, Avigdor Lieberman, has agreed to buy another 17 jets to raise the total number to 50 F-35As.
Kelman revealed that for the other 25 aircraft, his people are examining the F-35B as an option.
“The F-35B may be limited relatively to the A model regarding the amount of munitions it can carry, but has other advantages that may aid us in different scenarios,” Kelman was quoted as saying.
