Italy would consider any U.S. request to use its air base for air strikes in Libya

If Washington is to approach Rome with any request to use of Sigonella air base in Sicily for strikes against Islamic State militants in Libya, Italy would consider it, Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni said.

Italy had given permission for the United States to conduct air strikes from Sigonella if those missions were “defensive” in nature.
