The Hornet was on temporary assignment to Strike Fighter Wing Pacific Detachment Fallon and the pilot is assigned to Naval Aviation Warfighting Development Center.
This is the second loss of a Hornet for VMFA-232. A Marine pilot from the unit was killed when his aircraft crashed in California on Jul. 28.
