On Nov. 18, 1952, Williams defended Task Force 77 against seven MiG-15s flown by Soviet pilots in his Grumman F9F-5 Panther.

During the dogfight, Williams shot down three MiGs while a fourth crashed while returning to base.

His plane was so badly shot up by the Soviets that it had 263 holes in it.

The event was classified for 50-years until the Russians confirmed the incident in 1992.
