The U.S. government has approved the sale of four Boeing KC-46A aerial refueling tankers to Japan and the Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified Congress on the decision on Sept. 21. The estimated cost is $1.9 billion.
The aircraft will come equipped with Northrop Grumman’s AN/AAQ-24(V) Large Aircraft Infrared Countermeasures (LAIRCM) system.
