Raytheon and Kongsberg has successfully test-fired the AMRAAM-ER from the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS) in Norway on Aug. 31.

The new variant simply pairs the sensor from the AMRAAM to a Evolved Sea Sparrow missile (ESSM) and gives a 50 percent increase in maximum range and 70 percent increase in maximum altitude.
Modifications done to accommodate the new missile include extending the top row of three canisters by a foot, Defense News reported.
