German officials believe that procuring the Medium Extended Air Defense System (MEADS) will cost taxpayers between 9 to 10 billion Euros, the initial estimate was around 4 billion Euros, Reuters is reporting.

Reuters claims that it had several sources to back up the story. However, none revealed why the sudden jump in cost estimate.
One source said lead contractor MBDA will now have to give a detail breakdown on the costs.
