The Swiss Air Force also intends to keep some of its aging F-5 Tigers flying until a new fighter aircraft comes online.

Parmelin added that he hopes to launch a new fighter competition soon. Selection will be carried out in 2020 with funds allocated to buy the aircraft in 2022. The winner is expected to enter service in 2025.
