Japan mulls strike variant of F-15J; to be armed with JASSM-ER

The Yomiuri Shimbun said today that Tokyo is exploring the possibility of modifying the F-15J all-weather air superiority fighter to give it a ground strike capability.

Sources said the government is planning to have the Boeing jet carry the JASSM-ER cruise missile. Civil servants are working on the fiscal 2018 budget to allocate funds to research on how to carry out the modifications.
