USN skippers aren’t sure on the full capabilities of their ship’s weapon systems

One of the invited speakers at the Defense Forum Washington conference on Dec. 4 was former Deputy Defense Secretary Bob Work. Work cautioned that current U.S. Navy skippers are not fully aware of the capabilities of their ship’s weapon systems due to lack of training.

When these commanders turn up at the Naval War College’s Halsey Groups, they had to be educated on what those systems are capable of.

“This is what the Aegis combat system can do, this is what the RAM, the Rolling Airframe Missile, can do,” Work said. “We are not prepared anywhere where we need to be at this point in my view.”
