Russia suspends development of RS-26 Rubezh

TASS is reporting that Russia has decided to suspend the development of the contravesial RS-26 Rubezh intercontinental ballistic missile due to a lack of funds.

Although in previous testing, the missile flew more than 5500km – putting it in the intercontinental category – with a light or no payload. Western observers say this violates the START treaty banning intermediate range ballistic missiles.

According to the anonymous source mentioned in the article, resources are needed to develop the Avangard hypersonic glide vehicle and a decision was made to suspend work on Rubezh till 2027.
