Finland kicks off fighter competition

Finland is inviting fighter manufacturers to submit bids to supply 64 aircraft to replace its legacy Hornets.

Defense Minister Jussi Niinisto told a news conference on Apr. 27 that bidders will have to submit their bids by early 2019.

A winner will be picked in 2021. Helsinki plans to phase out the F/A-18 from 2025.
