Swedish PM to testify as witness in Brazil Gripen case

The Stockholm District Court said on May 9 that Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven has been summoned to testify next month as a witness for a Brazilian corruption case.

Lofven had lobbied to sell the Saab Gripen to Brazil when he was the head of trade union IF Metall.

Brazilian prosecutors said the country’s former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva had helped Saab to win the contract unfairly.

Lula’s lawyers are seeking Lofven’s testimony to debunk the allegation that the deal was struck when both men met during the funeral of Nelson Mandela in 2013.
