South Korea has decided against having an open competition to buy a new maritime patrol aircraft and has chosen the Boeing P-8A instead.

Yonhap quoted an official from the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) as saying that having an open bidding process will mark up the price of the P-8A and the quote given by the U.S. government to buy the Boeing aircraft via the foreign military sale route was competitive.
