IAI adds sonobuoy and MAD to Heron

On the eve of the Farnborough air show, Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) announced that it intends to improve the maritime capbilites of its Heron unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) by adding sonobuoy and Magnetic Detector (MAD) payloads to the aircraft.

The Israeli aerospace company says in a press release that this is in response to “the discontinuation of the ‘Shahaf’ manned Sea Scan maritime jet by the Israeli Navy and the growing use of IAI Heron RPAS for maritime patrol missions.
