The U.S. Missile Defense Agency intends to set up the new Long Range Discrimination Radar at Clear Air Force Station and the Pentagon is requesting to expand the restricted airspace around the base.
The agency says the expanded airspace is required in order to protect aircraft and people from the high-intensity radiated field generated by the new radar.
The proposal has drawn concern from the city of Andersen as it may affect medevac flights out of Clear airport.
Pilots flying VFR between Anchorage and Fairbanks are affected as well as their flight path cuts through the proposed restricted airspace.
