Serbia drops plan to buy S-400 over U.S. threats of sanctions

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic told RTS national television on Nov. 6 that the country will not buy the S-400 air defense missile system.

Vucic had indicated that the country will one day buy the S-400 while he was observing the Slavic Shield-2019 Russian-Serbian joint exercise.

U.S. Special Representative for the Western Balkans Matthew Palmer later went on television that Belgrade will come under U.S. sanctions if it proceeds with the purchase.
