COVID 19 spreading aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt; ship’s captain pleads for help

A four-page letter from the captain of aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt to senior naval officers has been published by San Francisco Chronicle. In his letter, Capt. Brett Crozier pleads for help to quarantine his sailors on Guam as the COVID 19 is spreading aboard the ship.

The letter says the crew is unable to comply with CDC or NAVADMIN 083/20 protocols for total isolation due to the warship’s inherent limitations of space.

He added that the spread of infection is increasing and spreading. An anonymous senior officer aboard the carrier told the Chronicle that between 150 and 200 sailors have been infected.

Of note, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Headquarters tweeted on Mar. 31 that their “Pacific Ocean Division is coordinating with the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (@NAVFAC
) Marianas to conduct site assessments for Guam.”

Satellite image from Sentinel-2B shows the carrier northwest of Guam on Mar. 26 at coordinates 13.75, 144.10.
