The Japanese government has to find a new location for the Aegis Ashore missile defense system site due to strong local opposition.

A senior Defense Ministry official conceded that locating the site in Araya is impossible due to opposition from the local mayor, governor, assembly and ruling party chapter.
It will now search for another potential site in Akita Prefecture.
