JoongAng Ilbo newspaper had earlier indicated that the plan was to buy a new aircraft. An anonymous official refuted the news to reporters. He added that it will be a new aircraft which will undergo modifications and be ready late next year.

The current presidential jet, known as Code One, is a Boeing 747-400 leased from Korean Air. The lease expires this year.
