Taiwan has decided to proceed with the purchase of four MQ-9 unmanned air vehicles (UAV) from the United States, Up Media reports.
The Air Force has completed its purchase report and the project is now listed in the budget request. The island is now waiting for Washington to list the purchase price.
It was earlier reported that the Republic of China Air Force (RoCAF) had budgeted $167 million to buy the four aircraft.
The fate of the indigenous Teng Yun unmanned aerial vehicle now hangs in the balance and the aircraft will be evaluated in the next 100 days to determine if its suitable to meet the RoCAF’s requirements.
The Teng Yun was earlier found to be underpowered and two Honeywell TPE331 turboprop engines were sourced to upgrade the aircraft.
