A fire broke out at Aero Engine Corporation of China (AECC) Chengdu Engine Co. Ltd. this week. The plant is responsible for the WS-18 engine, an improve copy of the Russian Soloviev D-30.

The WS-18 is supposed to be a stopgap measure for the Y-20 transport while waiting for the WS-20’s development is completed. It will also be the domestic engine for the H-6K bomber.
The site was geolocated at Xindu district and matches the online address of Chengdu Engine.
From the latest information it was a fireworks plant in the same vicinity as the engine company.
