“Everything is studied and selected before the government issues a formal purchase offer,” the general was quoted as saying.
He was the first defense official to comment on the news reports that emerge earlier this month. Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto had written to his Austrian counterpart, Klaudia Tanner, on Jul. 10 to offer to buy Austria’s fleet of Eurofighters.
Meanwhile in Moscow, the country’s ambassador said Jakarta is still committed to a program to buy Su-35 fighters.
Mohamad Wahid Supriyadi said that despite Washington’s threat to use the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act over the purchase of Russian arms, it is up to Indonesia to decide which country it should buy weapons from.
